As I’m sitting here waiting for a ride to a place I don’t want to go, I’m listening to the most fitting new album. Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan’s new album, Sunday at Devil Dirt is the biggest, richest, fullest sounding soundtrack to everything everyone’s going through.
She’s an ex-member of Belle and Sebastian, and he’s none other than the Screaming Trees vocalist, but together they’re a sad, creepy, Tom Waites-esque carnival of love. It’s kind of an American blues record from the Scottish cellist, his voice gritty and dark, her backing vocals airy and light. I haven’t heard their first record, but after listening to this, I think I’ll have to go buy it.
